Bentonville School District traces its history back to 1841. A log school building was erected on the lot directly east of the present school Administration Building (400 NW 2nd Street. The communities of Bentonville, Cave Springs, Centerton, Vaughn and portions of Bella Vista and Healing Springs comprise the Bentonville School District.
The school system is accredited K-12 by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Bentonville was the first school district in the state of Arkansas to be accredited K-12 by the North Central Association.
The vision of the Bentonville School District is to provide a learning environment, which empowers and energizes students to make choices and meet the challenges of the twenty-first century. Data-driven plans for these strategic initiatives continue to be developed.
Academic Programs
Elementary programs, which enhance academics, include looping, multi-age classrooms, learning styles and continuous learning. Art, music, physical education and library classes are provided to students in the elementary curriculum as well as full day kindergarten. Reading Styles is a program, which applies student learning strength to the teaching of reading. Peer Helpers, volunteer programs and parental involvement offer extra assistance for students. Certified teachers provide ESL instruction to all grade levels. Students move from the K-5 elementary to a 6-7 middle school setting. The transition is enhanced through a team block consisting of language arts, math, science and social studies with common families of students and teachers.
Junior High School students experience a balance of required and elective subjects. Students may choose from electives such as home economics, industrial arts, vocal music, band, art, gifted education, physical education, life skills, speech and technology Intra-murals are available from grades 6 through 9 for both boys and girls.
Bentonville High School offers 147 courses encompassing extensive programs in business, computer education, foreign languages, home economics, language arts, mathematics, and the performing arts, including speech, drama, journalism, vocal music, band, and art, gifted education, physical education, science and social studies. Advance placement classes are available in several areas. Vocational Education offers courses in business, marketing, child care management, technology, animal science, horticulture and computer assisted design. A full complement of interscholastic athletic and activity programs are also available. Students desiring to take additional vocational courses may request to attend the area vocational technical school located in Fayetteville. College concurrent classes in math and English are also offered through cooperative agreements with Northwest Arkansas Community College.
